A compact, high-density material, epowood has been used since the 1970s by automotive design studios to create styling models. From Bertone to Pininfarina, it has enabled the greatest names in design to bring their visions to life.
The Jaguar Type E Cabriolet, unveiled in Geneva in 1961, is the original and purest version of the British icon. Open to the sky, it fully reveals the lines signed by Malcolm Sayer, with its endless bonnet and low, taut silhouette. Powered by the 3.8-litre and later 4.2-litre straight-six engine, before receiving the 5.3-litre V12 in 1971, it combines open-top driving with performance worthy of the finest GTs of its era, exceeding 240 km/h in its most powerful versions. Its simple, quick-to-operate soft top, its bucket seats, and the aluminium aviation-style dashboard of the earliest models make it the most authentic expression of the Type E spirit. An absolute symbol of the British roadster of the 1960s, the Cabriolet remains the most sought-after version among collectors today, embodying on its own the romance of open-top driving.
